Honesty is the best policy. We all know this, but sometimes even the best of us forget that it’s even more important when you’re meeting people online. If you fib on your Loveawake profile, you might end up with way more drama than you bargained for. And all that nasty bad karma.

It’s best to keep things short and sweet on your profile, so that means you don’t need to go into too much detail. If your job is lame or embarrassing, just say you have a job. If you live with your mom for whatever reason, just don’t mention it (that’s a second-date conversation anyway). Your rule of thumb should be, ‘if you can’t be 100% honest about it, leave it out.’

If you’re worried about not looking ‘just-so’ for your photos, take close-ups of your best features – highlight a piercing or tattoo, show off your eyes, or even your ear if you’re shy. Or share a photo of something meaningful to you: a favorite coffee mug, the books on your bedside table, or that super-stunning sunset photo you took a year ago.

Let people know up front what you’re self-conscious about. Remember, you’re your own toughest critic…no one will find your flaws as terrible as you do. And anyone worth your time will commiserate and appreciate your honesty.

Admit it, you’ve got some eccentricities that make you weirdly wonderful. Use them to winnow out the weak and feeble-hearted.
